About 6 feet and 4 inches (1.93 m) tall in height, George attended Iowa City West High School in Iowa City, Iowa. Later on, he moved to the Cedar Falls High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa, followed by Norman High School in Norman, Oklahoma. Eventually, he committed to the University of Iowa to play college football.

After a decent college career, George Kittle eyed a big-league start after the San Francisco 49ers selected him in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Subsequently, on 4 May 2017, he signed a four-year, $2.69 million-worth contract with the 49ers that includes a signing bonus of $298,287.
George appeared first time in his 49ers jersey in his side’s season-opener against the Carolina Panthers. Though his team lost the game by 23-3 margin, he caught five passes for 27 yards. At the end of the rookie season, George finished with 43 receptions for 515 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games.
