Four months after giving birth, Meghan Markle is officially off maternity leave and ready to jump back into her philanthropic work. The Duchess of Sussex will be launching two different projects over the next couple of weeks, but at the last minute, she decided to fly to New York for a quick weekend trip to support a friend.
According to The Times, Markle flew from the UK to the Big Apple without Prince Harry, Archie Harrison, and her staff – just her security detail – to watch her good friend Serena Williams compete in the US Open final.

After staying up late Thursday night watching Williams in the semi-final on television, Markle jumped on a commercial flight to New York City (no private jet this time). The former Suits actress had reportedly been thinking about making the quick trip to NYC ever since Williams won her quarterfinal earlier in the week.
An insider says that Markle is excited to support her friend before she heads back to London, however it’s not clear when the Duchess plans on making the return trip. She does have a few days free before the scheduled launch of her capsule collection for Smart Works, which is next Thursday.
The purpose of her new charitable workwear line for women is to help those in need to find jobs.
The other project that Markle is working on – along with Prince Harry – is the Travalyst travel initiative. This charitable effort has the goal of helping the travel industry become more environmentally-friendly, and the project comes on the heels of the private jet controversy that has surrounded Harry and Meghan in recent weeks.
Still, despite her last-minute solo trip to support her friend and her two charitable projects, the British media continues to find ways to hate on the Duchess of Sussex. Currently, headlines are all over the UK claiming that Markle snubbed Queen Elizabeth because she didn’t make a planned trip to Balmoral Castle.
“Harry and Meghan had no plans to go to Balmoral this summer as they felt Archie was too young,” says an insider. “It’s a bit odd, as his age didn’t stop them taking him to Ibiza for a week and then to see Elton John in France.”

The source added that if Meghan and Harry want privacy and protection like they claimed after taking private jets this summer, the Queen’s Scottish home is about as private and protected as you can get.
The insider also took another jab at the Duchess, suggesting that Meghan Markle didn’t go to Balmoral because she wasn’t into hunting, shooting, or fishing.
