The design of the Ruiner in GTA V is inspired by the third generation Pontiac Firebird with cues from various other 80s muscles and coupes. It has a hood resembling that of a Nissan 300ZX Z31 and rims resembling those of the Mitsubishi Starion. The rear window is shaped like the first generation Mazda RX-7, while the tail lights and trunk spoiler resemble those of the Camaro.
The rear end features a plastic panel on the center with badges, and sectioned tail lights. The Ruiner retains its design from GTA IV with minor changes, such as a quad exhaust, minor changes to the badges and decals, and the ability to apply a traditional ram air hood.
The T-Top roof options from the GTA IV version are present but cannot be changed by the player and are random at spawn. The Ruiner's rim design is the same and can be found in Los Santos Customs under the Muscle category named "Mecha''.
The Ruiner in GTA V boasts impressive acceleration and top speed, on par with more expensive cars. Its suspension strikes a balance between firmness and looseness, providing adequate grip for turns while still allowing for some playful maneuvering. Handling-wise, the Ruiner excels with excellent grip, controllable loss of traction, and ample torque.
It also boasts strong braking capabilities, though it's not the best in its class. The car can withstand moderate crash deformation but is prone to stalling after a few high-speed crashes. Under the hood, the Ruiner houses the same 450 cui Fuel-injected V8 engine as in GTA IV, with a 5-speed gearbox and a front engine, rear-wheel drive layout. The engine sound is identical to the Dominator's.
